Hyderabad: The Malkajgiri police Special Operations Team, along with the Nacharam police, busted an online cricket betting racket and arrested cricket bookie Sai Kiran and 11 others on Saturday. Rs 7 lakh in cash, computers, a car, 25 mobile phones and other material were recovered from them.
The arrested were C Sai Kiran (30) from Warasiguda, the main organiser and bookie; C Srikanth (23) from Padmarao Nagar; G Praveen Kumar (27) from Peddapally district; P Anweshwar Rao (31), a private employee; S Abishek (24) from Seethaphalmandi; L Sainath (28); P Bharath Reddy (25); V David Alwin Jayakar Akshay (26) from Tarnaka; A Preetham Reddy (25) from LB Nagar; G Ashwin Kumar (27) from Nacharam; G Naresh (23) from Habsiguda; B Nirop (25). One suspect, Satish, is absconding.
According to the police, Sai Kiran was organising the online cricket betting for the last three years. Earlier, he was into hotel business, apart from working as a bookie for one Agarwal of Rajasthan during Indian Premier League matches last year. Agarwal organised betting from Goa. During this IPL, Sai Kiran started organising cricket betting on his own.
“He contacted friends and punters and collected advance amounts from each punter ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 1 lakh. He collected about Rs 10 lakh from more than 100 punters till now as bets,” police said.

Kiran employed Srikanth and Praveen Kumar while Rao provided his farmhouse at Jagadevpet of Karimnagar district. Rao also organised betting simultaneously in Hyderabad and Karimnagar. The arrested, along with the seized material, were handed over to the Nacharam police.
